Dear Enny,
Thank you very much for your message and your interest in supporting Norlha's activities in Tibet.
Eyeclarify is a wonderful project, very generous and clever.
Sunglasses are very necessary in Tibet since the air is so thin, Tibetans have many eyes problems. But due to financial difficulties, very few Tibetans can protect their eyes.
So yes indeed we plan to bring sunglasses; the primary beneficiaries are the elder people of the valleys where we work.
This year we will begin to set up a small clinic there, but for the "special glasses -1, -2, +2, +3 etc" it seems better to wait until we have set up the clinic and either an optician can come there regularly, or some european volunteers go there. So for now we only need "non-medical" glasses.
Our primary focus are the adults and elderly persons because they suffer more from eyes infections and diseases. I believe we don't need sunglasses for kids for the moment.
* There are 60'000 persons living in Dzachukha area, so there is a lot of needs. But we will first focus on 1 village and 2 valleys, and the number of KG we can carry in the plane is limited. So I believe about 200 pairs of sunglasses would be sufficient for now.
* The valleys where we work are called Bamkhog and Tsemkhog; the village is called Tsebum Sumdo (and GoYi MuTang in Chinese). It is located in Sershul (Serxu) County, Kandze (Garzê) Prefecture, Sichuan Province, P.R.China.
* Of course we will provide report and pictures of the people receiving the glasses and the benefits for them. It will be mentionned in our Dzachukha Health Project Report 2008.
