Council for the blind - Sybolt Raap.
Onderstaand een bericht van Sybolt Raap die een groot aantal brillen namens Eyeclarify mee heeft genomen naar Zimbabwe als onderdeel van een grotere lading hulpgoedern. Dit kostte hem de nodige moeite en veel gepraat bij de verschillende grensovergangen.

Ik ben weer terug in Baarn, na ruim 3 maanden in Zimbabwe Bulawayo te zijn geweest.
In die tijd ben ik 3 keer bij de Zimbabwean Council for the blind geweest.
Dolgelukkig was Dr. Nyathi met de brillen. Hij is een hele aardige, gedreven man.
Ik sluit een paar foto´s bij.
Dr Nyathi heeft behoorlijk wat plannen. Ik blijf daarover met hem in contact staan. Ben benieuwd. Bril onderdelen zijn onderdeel daarvan.
Zij hebben daar inderdaad een hele werkplaats waar zij uit brilonderdelen complete aangepaste brillen maken. Ook de glazen worden op scherpte geslepen indien nodig.
Probleem blijft de bevoorrading.

We (red. Werkgroep EyeClarify) plaatsen hieronder nog een reactie van de heer Nyathi na onze vraag hoe de Council for the Blind de brillen aanmeet. Dit mede om aan onze donateurs aan te geven dat wij er alles aan doen om te zorgen dat de brillen die worden ingezameld ook bij de juiste organisaties terecht komen en dat financieel gewin geen onderdeel vormt van de hulp organisatitie ter plaatse:

The organisation works hand in clover with relevant social welfare departments that have a data base for all deserving cases. Most of the destitute people are referred to our organisation by the same department.The organisation also uses the mobile eye team that visit rural communities and screen eye patients for spectacles. See attached pamphlet for further details.
All eye patients with refractive errors come to the organisation armed with prescriptions. We have a fully fledged optical workshop where different types of spectacles are assembled.Over 7 500 pairs of spectacles are assembled on a yearly basis. There will be no problem with me supplying the children with the required spectacles.
At the moment I would be happy to receive as many frames as you possibly could raise. This needs to be an on going activity, prefarably on a yearly basis as the organisation is capable of assembling up to 10 000 pairs per year.
