Hallo Dianne,
Groetjes en keep up the good work,
Johan

Het blog van Johan is interessant om te lezen. Wij plaatsen hieronder het verslag:
Yesterday morning we visited Centre for Sight, to donate the about 400 spectacle frames we brought with us. (Thanks to Dianne!) This time, a doctor took much time for us, and a lot of things about one of the main eye centers of Sri Lanka were explained to us. For example it became clear to us, that it's not really a governmental institution, since most of the funding is collected via donations! In the eye center are about 40 specialists and 200 nurses. The environment is clean, and one of the most special thing that has been taught to the employees is discipline. Discipline normally is something that many people in Sri Lanka have a lack of, but in this part of the Kandy General Hospital is well organized. The doctor we met was very friendly and warm, and we discovered he's the person who taught discipline to Bhante Seelagawesi and introduced him to Europe. What a coincidence! The doctor talked a lot with us, and showed us around through the eye clinic. A lot of small childs younger than 8 months, almost blind, receive eye surgery. The amount of children to be helped depends on the amount of donation money that is received. To help one child to be able to see its entire life, costs about 10.000 rps, that is 100 dollar. To help adult people is less costly, 20 dollar.
When one with bad eyes comes to the eye center, there are different possibilities: one needs eye surgery, or one gets a prescription to buy glasses at a local optician. For the poor people who come to the Eye Center, a donated spectacle is given to him/her. And for the people who don't have money to travel to the Eye Center, or who simply can't have a day off from their work, for them in the country side villages, camps are organized each 3 months. The next camp is in January. Specialists from Centre for Sight then go to a village, bring donated spectacle frames, and help the poor local people. So Dianne, the 400 frames do have a very good destination!
